Here is a poem written by and sent to me by Ricky Singh after reading Benang by Kim Scott, Fremantle Arts Press. An essential read, i would say.

I could feel!
The land of opportunities,
The place for adventures,
Never felt so frightening,
Never appeared so sad,
Until the native bush spoke,
The old trees screamed,
Aloud and in despair,
Telling the trauma and pain
Of killings of their people
Who loved and adore them,
Who worshiped the land
Their loving humans.
I could feel, under my feet
The carcasses, the blood
Mixed in soil of goldfields.
